Educating Gifted Students
For over a century, researchers have consistently found that gifted learners flourish in an educational environment suited to their unique abilities.
It is also well documented that providing a specialized learning environment for gifted children yields more than just academic rewards: Children with advanced intellectual abilities also benefit socially and emotionally when grouped with their intellectual peers and engaged in an appropriately challenging curriculum.
Yet, in standard educational systems, gifted children are still widely underserved. In many states, educating gifted children simply is not a priority. Nationwide, 61 percent of classroom teachers have no training in gifted and talented education.*
We earnestly hope that standard educational systems will someday be staffed and equipped to identify and serve gifted children with programs geared to their abilities so that none of these remarkable gifts go unrealized.
But for now, families seeking educational support for their gifted child must take a proactive approach.
That’s how and why The Sage School came to be.
