Middle School Curriculum

P5310220Curriculum in the Middle School is typically one to three years ahead of other middle school programs. Students are primarily grouped by grade for core subjects, such as math, Spanish, humanities, and science, with two sections for each by grade. Math placement within a grade is determined by past instruction and mastery. Individual class sizes in all subjects typically range from seven to fourteen students. All Middle School students take Latin, in addition to their English and Spanish studies. In the arts, seventh and eighth grade students take classes together, selecting rotating course options such as playwriting, photography, or “improv.”

All students use portable technology like laptops or Chromebooks in our 1:1 program. Using Google Apps for Education, we use technology to enhance the educational program much as state-of-the-art textbooks or other materials would do. While the students are engaged with challenging curriculum, our primary focus is the development of skills and habits necessary for success in secondary school, and our students do quite well in their placements after Sage, attending some of the most prestigious independent schools in New England and outstanding public high schools. We maintain close contact with our alums, and they speak highly of their preparation for the challenges of secondary school.
