Model UN Conferences in New York and Worcester
This past weekend, twenty-two Sage students attended two difference Model UN conferences, one in New York, hosted by the United Nations Associations Global Classrooms, and one in Worcester, MA, hosted by United Nations Association and Clark University. The New York conference is the only international Model UN conference designed specifically for students in grades 5-8, and this year’s conference hosted 1,500 participants from fourteen U.S. states and nine countries. The conference in Worcester attracted students from throughout Massachusetts. Topics discussed included malaria and infectious diseases, sustainable development, and nuclear terrorism. These conferences provide an authentic simulation of the UN in a highly professional setting and the chance for delegates to debate with hundreds of students from across the state, the country, and around the globe.
Six Sage students won awards in New York:
Emma J. and Jordan D. – Honorable Mention, Best Delegation, serving on the United Nations Environmental Program committee
Owen M. and Avery P. – Best Position paper in the Committee for Sustainable Development
Noah P. and Carson S. – Best Delegation in the World Health Organization
At the Worcester-Clark University conference, Ansh J. and Samantha A. won the Best Delegation Award for the Security Council.
