Model UN Success
This spring, twenty-four Sage students attended two different Model UN conferences, one in March in Worcester, MA, hosted by United Nations Association and Clark University and one in April in New York, hosted by the United Nations Associations Global Classrooms. The conference in Worcester attracted students from throughout Massachusetts. The New York conference is the only international Model UN conference designed specifically for students in grades 5-8, and this year’s conference hosted 1,500 participants from around the country and the world. Topics discussed included international arms control, access to medication, and nuclear waste. These conferences provide an authentic simulation of the UN and the chance for delegates to negotiate and problem solve with hundreds of students from across the state, the country, and around the globe.
Four Sage students won awards in New York:
- Noah P. and Jordan D. – Honorable Mention, Best Delegation, serving on the International Maritime Organization
- Samantha A. and Nate S. – Honorable Mention, Best Delegation, serving on the General Assembly
At the Worcester-Clark University conference:
- Shubhum G. and Shaan H. won the Best Delegation Award for the United Nations Environmental Program.
