Massachusetts Geography Bee

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge.

At Sage, students in the Junior Division (Grades 3-5) participate in the school’s geography bee in January. This year, Jamie M. (Grade 3) came in 1st place, Marcus E. (Grade 4) came in 2nd place, and Duncan M. (Grade 4) came in 3rd place. Since the state geography bee is open only to students in Grades 4-8, Jamie was too young to participate in the state geography bee, and Marcus represented Sage at the Massachusetts Geographic Bee. Marcus came in 12th for the entire state of Massachusetts. Marcus was competing primarily against Middle Schoolers, which makes his finish even more impressive. Congratulations Marcus!
