Sage Welcomes Dr. Nan Wodarz as Interim Head of School
The Sage School is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Nan Wodarz as Interim Head of School for the 2012-2013 school year, effective August 27. Dr. Wodarz’s appointment is the result of a comprehensive search process, led by a search committee comprised of parents/trustees and faculty. The search committee’s recommendation was unanimously approved by the full Board of Trustees.
During her nearly three-decade career in private and public education, Dr. Wodarz has held a number of senior administrative positions, including Head of School. She is a strong leader and decision maker, is well versed in all areas of school business, and impressed the committee with her understanding of gifted education theory and suggestions for how to apply it to Sage’s program.
Most recently, Dr. Wodarz was Head of Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she was responsible for all aspects of school life for the 900 students in preschool through grade twelve. Prior to Forsyth, she spent five years as the Head of Robinson School, an American college preparatory academy in San Juan, Puerto Rico with 600 students in preschool through grade twelve. Dr. Wodarz’s accomplishments as Head of Robinson included improving student performance, growing enrollment and implementing advanced science, technology, engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M) programs. She also spent seven years as the Chief Academic Officer of The School at Church Farm in Exton, Pennsylvania with 180 students in grades seven through twelve. Earlier in her career, Dr. Wodarz held positions of increasing responsibility at large, complex and highly regarded public school districts in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
In addition to her many accomplishments as a school administrator, Dr. Wodarz also brings significant teaching experience to Sage. She has taught at the elementary and middle school levels, as well as both undergraduate and graduate courses for several colleges and universities. She has received numerous awards during her career, including Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Arizona and the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year at Penn State University.
Dr. Wodarz earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois, her Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from National Louis University, and a doctorate of education (Ed. D.) in Curriculum and Supervision from Northern Arizona University. She also completed post Doctoral work at Harvard Business School.
