Eighth Grade Trip to Puerto Rico

Hola! Our five days in beautiful and historic Puerto Rico were fantastic. We learned much about the history of the island. Some of our trip studies included: the early Taino people and archeological finds, the Spanish conquest, life in old San Juan, military engagements and forts, US conquest, US military and the island in WWII, life in the rain forest, dinoflagellates and how they create a biolumenescent bay, different types of foods, island topography, and even salsa dancing. We hiked, swam, body surfed, kayaked, and ziplined. We practiced our Spanish, and we had fun with our friends and teachers. We were so sad to leave, but we are very grateful to our families for providing us with this opportunity. Here is what some of us thought:

“I had so much fun in Puerto Rico this year. Not only are the activities fun, but just being around our friends all week is awesome. It is also a good experience to travel without parents, I learned how to be in an airport and in another country without everything being done for me.” – Nick

“I had a good experience in Puerto Rico, although I wish it were longer. The trips taught me to be more responsible and mindful of time management. Overall I enjoyed the trips a lot and I hope to do more trips in high school.” – Sophia

“The eighth grade trip was very fun, it’s a great bonding experience. Puerto Rico was an amazing place for a trip, and every activity we did was exciting.” – Sam

“My eighth grade trip to Puerto Rico was great because not only was I spending time in a different place, but I was also spending time with my friends. My favorite part of Puerto Rico was going on the zipline due to the fact that I conquered my fear of heights and that the zipline was extremely fun!” – Matthew
